Instructions
1. Login or Register:
Before you can begin competing against others, it is important that you Login to your account. If you do not yet have an account, you may create one by visiting our registration page. By having an QuickTyper.com account, you will be able to keep track of your time and compare to others.
2. Select Appropriate Skill Level:
It is important that you select an appropriate skill level. Always remember that to improve, you must challenge your self. Based on your initial time, you will be assigned to a skill level group. As you continue to progress, different skill levels will no longer be available.
3. Start the Timer:
To start the timer, simply begin typing the provided material in the white box. Please keep in mind that all text needs to be typed exactly as shown. Errors must be fixed in order to continue typing.
4. End the Timer:
For the timer to stop, you must complete all of the material at once. Once all of the material has been typed, the results will be posted on the score boards.
Typing Tips
Base Positions:
Whenever you type, place your forefingers on F and J. In most standard keyboards, these keys are marked by little bars or small dents. The rest of the fingers go on either their respective left or right position. After some time, your fingers will seek this position themselves. The thumb is responsible for operating the space bar.
Left Hand: A S D F
Right Hand: J K L ;
Thumbs: Space Bar
Hands:
Your wrist, elbows and keyboard should be on the same horizontal plane, and at a 90 degree angle to your upper arms.
Sitting:
There should be at least two inches between the front of the seat and the back of your knees. Your feet should be flat on the floor.
Screen:
The top of your screen should be near eye level.
Fingers:
Don't look at the keys when you type. Just slide your fingers around until they find the home row marking.
Relax:
Don't hammer on the keys. Try using the minimum force possible.
Upper/Lower:
To switch between upper/lower case use always opposite hand.
Rhythm:
Try to type with a constant speed.
